Employee Engagement for a Competitive Business

(Jessie Reid, 2018)

Employee engagement is a human resources (HR) concept that describes the level of enthusiasm and dedication a worker feels toward their job. Engaged employees care about their work and about the performance of the company and feel that their efforts make a difference. An engaged employee is in it for more than a paycheck and may consider their well-being linked to their performance, and thus instrumental to their company's success (Smith, 2023).

(ENGAGE, 2013)

The Components of Employee Engagement

Engagement can be regarded as having three over lapping components: motivation and commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. A model of engagement containing these components produced by the Institute for Employment Studies (Armstrong et al, 2010) Work or job engagement is also associated with job satisfaction. These components of engagement are considered below.

Enhancing Engagement

Line managers play a key role in enhancing job engagement with the support of organizational initiatives in the areas of job design; learning programmes, including leadership development for line managers; and performance and reward management systems.
The approaches that can be used to enhance organizational engagement include: 1) high-involvement management; (2) developing ‘the big idea’; and (3) tackling the work environment (Armstrong and Taylor ,2014).

Conclusion

The surveys, interviews, and feedback mechanisms will also primarily involve measuring “employee engagement” to identify the areas that require improvement and the progressions to be made. Organizations with highly engaged employees register less turnover, rise in productivity and become overall more successful, hence creating a culture of engagement is very important for organizations that wish to remain successful in an exceptionally competitive environment out there today.
