“Talent Management” secures the organization’s future.

"Talent management deserves as much focus as financial capital management in corporations." - Jack Welch

(Edoardo Zorzoli ,2020)

Talent management means putting in place processes to: attract, identify, develop, engage, keep and deploy individuals valuable to an organization. To be effective, it needs to align with strategic business objectives. Strategic talent management has several benefits: it builds a high-performance workplace; it fosters a learning climate; it adds value to the employer brand, and it improves diversity. (CIPD)

TALENT MANAGEMENT DEFINED

Talent management is the process of ensuring that the organization has the talented people it needs to attain its business goals. It involves the strategic management of the flow of talent through an organization by creating and maintaining a talent pipeline (Armstrong and Taylor, 2014).

HUMAN RESOURCES PLANNING

Human resource planning is the process by which members of the HR department identify current and future hiring or training needs. The purpose of human resource planning is to make sure that a business has the right type of talent spread throughout its departments.

Human resource planning also aims to help businesses figure out what areas their company lacks in terms of employment and what strategic steps they need to complete to achieve those talent areas at their company (Indeed Editorial Team ,2023).

THE TALENT MANAGEMENT PROCESS

Talent management starts with the business strategy and what it signifies in terms of the future demand for talented people. Ultimately, the aim is to develop and maintain a pool of talented people through the talent pipeline, which consists of the processes of resourcing, career planning and talent development that maintain the flow of talent needed by the organization. (Armstrong and Taylor, 2014).

HOW EFFECTIVE IS TALENT MANAGEMENT IN SECURING THE ORGANIZATION'S FUTURE?

Taking a strategic approach to managing talent in an organization will have more compelling benefits for the organization. In the future, work and jobs will present many challenges. Since digitalization, automation, and AI have replaced some roles and evolved in organizations, the need to upskill and re-skill people has increased.

(Eightfold ,2021)

Organizational talent management strategies provide a focus for investment in people. The same strategy will contribute to secure the organizational future with enhancing the effectiveness of following objectives.

·       Increasing efficiency and productivity.

·       Strengthening the ‘employee value proposition ‘.

·       Building a high-performance workplace.

·       Contributing to inclusion and diversity.

·       Encouraging continuous learning.

·       Creating meaningful work and growth opportunities for staff.

·       Accessing people's analytics for better business decision-making.

·       Building a Positive Employer Brand

Conclusion.

Talent management will play a crucial role in securing an organization's future by ensuring there are the right people with the right skills in the right positions to achieve the organization's strategic objectives.

An effective talent management strategy needs to align with the organization's strategy. When planning a talent management strategy, it is important to determine future workforce needs. Thus, workforce planning is a pre-requisite to talent management.

Talent management contributes effectively to the long-term success and sustainability of an organization.
