Strategic Employee Resourcing for Organizational Success
Strategic resourcing is a key part of strategic
human resource management, ie matching human resources to the strategic and
operational requirements of the organization and ensuring the full utilization
of those resources. It is concerned not only with obtaining and keeping the
number and quality of staff required but also with selecting and promoting
people who ‘fit’ the culture and the strategic requirements of the organization
(Armstrong ,2014)
Resourcing Strategy vs Recruitment Strategy
The terms of resourcing and recruitment strategies
are often confused but aren’t interchangeable. Recruitment strategy is about
hiring the people an organization needs to succeed. It forms part of the
resourcing strategy but is only one element.
Resourcing strategy is the bigger picture of how
the organization can meet its strategic objectives through its people. While
that does include recruitment, it also looks at talent retention and
development, employer brand, resource planning and utilization, and more.
‘Recruitment is about selling a job to someone
willing and able to do it. Resourcing is about looking at the long-term needs
of the organization.
Armstrong (2014) describes the components of
strategic employee resourcing as follows;
Workforce planning, alternatively called human
resource planning
Developing the organization’s employee value
proposition and its employer brand
Resourcing plans
Retention plans
Flexibility plans
Talent management
What does a resourcing specialist do?
Resourcing specialists are key to organizational
success. After all, without the right people to fill the right roles, organizations
will not thrive. Specialists in this area need to ensure that candidates have
the right skills and experience, and make sure they’re the right fit for the organization.
Resourcing specialists use workforce planning data
to identify key resourcing requirements and tap into diverse talent pools to
meet organizational needs. With the support of technology, and working with
managers in the business who are needing to recruit, resourcing specialists
will identify the right channels to find candidates and make sure they're
suitable for the role. They'll design fair and equitable assessment approaches
to achieve the perfect match between the organization and its future employees (
